POLICY WIRE — Berlin, Germany — German officials announced Wednesday that they are investigating two separate disruptions to the nation’s power distribution networks as potential acts of sabotage.

One of these incidents is being scrutinized under the lens of possible terrorism, authorities confirmed.

On Tuesday morning, security forces discovered several explosive devices at a substation located near the Jänschwalde coal-fired power plant in Brandenburg, situated in the northeast of the country.

Investigators are currently considering a range of suspects, including left-wing extremists or the involvement of a foreign government.

The probes occur while Germany remains on high alert following a separate security breach on Aug. 4.

The German government previously attributed an attempted attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport to Russia, involving a drone equipped with explosives.
