POLICY WIRE — Nashville, USA — Country music legend Garth Brooks has revealed a heartfelt initiative to commemorate the enduring legacy of the late Dolly Parton. Following Parton’s passing at the age of 80, announced by her nephew Bryan Seaver after a brief struggle with cancer, Brooks has designated September 25 as ‘Dolly Day’ at his Nashville establishment, Low Places Bar & Honky-Tonk, co-owned with his wife, country singer Trisha Yearwood.
The chosen date pays homage to Parton’s iconic song ‘9 to 5’. On this annual occasion, the bar’s proceeds will be directed towards Parton’s Imagination Library, a nonprofit organization focused on enhancing children’s education and literacy. Yearwood emphasized that the day’s earnings, whatever the amount, will support Parton’s dedication to children’s literacy.
Brooks expressed that Parton’s lifelong commitment to love ensures her everlasting presence. Parton’s Imagination Library, which sends free books to children worldwide from birth until kindergarten, was established in memory of her father, who faced significant challenges due to illiteracy.
At the time of her death, Parton’s Imagination Library was distributing books to nearly 850,000 children monthly across 1,600 communities in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, and the Republic of Ireland. Brooks, renowned for hits like ‘Friends in Low Places’ and ‘The Dance’, and Parton shared a long-standing professional relationship, including co-hosting the 58th Academy of Country Music Awards in 2023.
This announcement follows Tennessee State Senator Jessie Seal’s proposal to designate September 25 as ‘9 to 5 Day’ in Tennessee, Parton’s birthplace. Seal highlighted Parton’s profound impact on Tennessee and her legacy of faith and kindness.
