Flight FZ1073, carrying approximately 170 passengers including many Israelis, issued an emergency alert at 8:44 a.m. local time on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, roughly two and a half hours after departing Dubai. The commercial airliner suffered a catastrophic loss of altitude, plunging from 33,000 feet down to 17,000 feet, which translates from roughly 10,000 meters to 5,100 meters, in the span of about a minute.
As the aircraft plummeted and circled near the Jordanian border, Israel scrambled fighter jets in response to fears of a potential hijacking. Inside the cockpit, a vicious confrontation unfolded between the captain and the first officer before a passenger and a crew member managed to enter the secure area to subdue the attacker.

Netanyahu noted on social media that the injured pilot who had been stabbed managed to open the cockpit door, which enabled passengers and crew to overpower the attacker and avert a catastrophic mid-air disaster. The plane ultimately diverted and landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, about an hour after the initial distress call, where Saudi authorities arrested one of the pilots.
Both pilots sustained injuries requiring hospital treatment, according to an official statement released by Tabuk’s Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz International Airport. A separate aircraft carrying the stranded passengers safely landed Wednesday evening at Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv.
The shocking incident occurred just days ahead of the anniversary of the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel that sparked the ongoing war in Gaza, immediately reigniting international anxieties regarding airline security protocols.
