POLICY WIRE — Winter Haven, Florida — A school bus overturned in a deadly crash in central Florida on Monday morning, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, including a 10th-grade student, and injuring several others, according to local authorities.
The accident occurred when an oncoming vehicle crossed the center line and collided with the school bus near Winter Haven High School. The impact caused the bus to flip onto its roof and crash into a Jeep, which caught fire. One person in the Jeep also died, while five to seven others were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd described the crash as one of the most tragic bus incidents in recent decades. The bus was carrying 39 people, including 37 students, the driver, and the driver’s daughter. First responders worked through the early hours to assist those involved and reunite students with their families.
