Alberto Ontiveros-Sanchez, 55, was delivering a victim impact statement when he suddenly moved toward the defense table and struck Abel Uribe, 33, who was restrained with handcuffs and leg chains. The incident occurred in the same courtroom where Uribe had previously pleaded guilty to the 2022 murder of Ontiveros-Sanchez’s son-in-law, David Navidad-Parra, a 27-year-old Army captain.

Navidad-Parra was found dead on December 17, 2022, after being shot. Police later discovered that he had gone missing while test-driving a car he was trying to sell. Uribe was arrested the same day. During the sentencing, Ontiveros-Sanchez expressed his desire for life imprisonment for Uribe, calling it the only just outcome. After the attack, Ontiveros-Sanchez was taken into custody and faces charges including aggravated assault.
