Family of Woman Killed by ICE Officer Files Lawsuits Against Federal Government
Renee Good's family sues federal government, agents, and officials after her fatal shooting by ICE officer in Minneapolis.
POLICY WIRE — Minneapolis, United States — The family of Renee Good, who was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in January 2026, has initiated legal action against the federal government and several officials.
The incident occurred on January 7 when Good was killed by ICE agent Jonathan Ross. Two separate lawsuits have been filed, with the first targeting the U.S. government for alleged wrongful death under Minnesota law, including claims of battery, assault, false imprisonment, emotional distress, and negligence.
The second lawsuit names Ross, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and others, accusing them of a conspiracy to violate civil rights. It also highlights allegations of discrimination against Somali and Hispanic communities and attempts to silence their advocates. This comes shortly after Good’s mother and brother testified before Congress regarding fatal shootings by federal immigration officers in recent years.
