FAA Ground Stops Disrupt Travel at Newark and Philadelphia Airports

POLICY WIRE — Washington, USA — Thousands of passengers experienced significant travel disruptions on Monday as the Federal Aviation Administration implemented ground stops at Newark Liberty, Teterboro, and Philadelphia airports.
The agency reported that a technology failure at the Philadelphia Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facility forced dozens of aircraft to remain stationary on runways.
Ground stops were initiated in Philadelphia and Teterboro first, followed by Newark shortly after 10 a.m. According to the FAA website, these measures resulted in departure delays reaching up to 150 minutes.
In an official statement, the FAA noted that the disruption stemmed from issues with some frequencies. The agency did not provide a specific timeline for when normal operations would resume.

The FAA stated, The FAA is pausing flights into Philadelphia International, Teterboro and Newark Liberty International airports due to issues with some frequencies at Philadelphia TRACON.
The affected region represents one of the busiest air travel corridors in the United States. This incident follows a previous equipment malfunction last year that left approximately a dozen planes without communication for 90 seconds over New Jersey.
At the time of the previous incident, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy maintained that there was no risk of mid-air collisions during the brief communications outage.
