Loud booms and smoke reported near Saudi Aramco HQ in Dhahran. Saudi coalition confirms intercepted missile debris fell on residential areas. Get the latest.
POLICY WIRE — Dhahran, Saudi Arabia — Six separate sources report that loud explosions occurred Tuesday night in the area surrounding the Saudi Aramco headquarters.
The incidents triggered an immediate evacuation of the headquarters, with reports indicating that smoke was visible emanating from the facility.
The Saudi-led coalition stated that it intercepted and destroyed a missile in Dhahran, though fragments of the projectile subsequently landed in a residential neighborhood.
In response to the security situation, a source informed Reuters that Aramco staff were directed to work remotely on Wednesday.
The unrest extended to the capital, where the Saudi civil defense issued a danger warning for Riyadh following reports of a loud boom in the city.
Additional reports from the account @FirstSquawk and the Iranian state-linked outlet ISNA noted that explosions were heard within the Sharqiya region.
These events follow an escalation in the Houthi conflict, with the coalition targeting missile and drone sites after attacks on the Riyadh airport.
Market analysis currently suggests a 13% probability of Houthi forces entering Saudi Arabia by the end of the month.
Saudi Aramco has not yet provided an official comment or confirmation regarding the events at its headquarters.
