POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — A prominent figure linked to election conspiracy theories has stepped down from the Department of Justice, according to multiple sources.
Olsen, who was assigned to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, had been involved in a major investigation targeting officials from the Obama and Biden administrations. Despite ongoing efforts, no charges have been filed yet.
His departure follows the exit of another prosecutor, Joe diGenova, who resigned earlier this month due to disagreements with senior Justice Department leaders over case management. Olsen previously worked at the White House as a director of election security and was known for his role in challenging the 2020 election results alongside Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Olsen faced scrutiny from the House Jan. 6 select committee, which subpoenaed him over alleged communications with high-level Justice Department officials. The panel also noted that he spoke with former President Trump on January 6, 2021. Additionally, he referred a Fulton County election case to the FBI, leading to a search warrant that recovered numerous ballots from the 2020 election.
Several other prosecutors have left the team working on the grand conspiracy case in recent days, with some sources indicating that temporary hires had their assignments end.
