Edinburgh Fringe: Comedy Veterans Share Survival Tips with Newcomers

Gyles Brandreth, a seven-time Edinburgh veteran at 78, is mentoring Brandy Bex, a 50-year-old NHS nurse performing in drag. Brandreth highlighted the significance of community — and support. “The Fringe is as much about the people you meet as the performances you give,” he noted.

The pairings aim to provide practical advice and moral support to debutants navigating the highs and lows of the Fringe. From past mistakes to celebrity encounters, the veterans’ experiences offer a treasure trove of wisdom for those taking their first steps on the comedy stage.
