Simon Richardson faces at least 25 years in prison for murdering headteacher Michael Mullins, who he knowingly dragged under his vehicle for over a mile.
POLICY WIRE — Greater Manchester, UK — A 35-year-old motorist has been sentenced to serve at least 25 years behind bars for the murder of a cyclist he knowingly dragged beneath his vehicle.
Simon Richardson was found guilty of the killing of Michael Mullins after driving his two-ton SUV with the victim trapped underneath for a distance exceeding than one mile.
The victim, a 56-year-old father of two, was cycling home home from Stretford Grammar School when the fatal incident occurred.
Court proceedings revealed that Richardson failed to yield at a stop sign, resulting in a collision that sent Mullins onto the hood and windshield of the car.
Rather than stopping to provide aid, the driver continued moving, dragging the headteacher under the chassis for more than a mile.
Mullins was described as a brilliant and transformative leader who had served as the headteacher at Stretford Grammar School for 17 years.
The widow of the deceased expressed that her life has been callously torn apart following the horrific manner of her husbands death.
