Delta Goodrem Cleared to Return to Strictly Come Dancing Following Rib Injury
Australian singer Delta Goodrem returns to the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom this Saturday after recovering from a rib injury that sidelined her last week.
POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — The BBC has officially confirmed that Australian singer Delta Goodrem will rejoin the Strictly Come Dancing competition this Saturday. The 41-year-old performer was granted medical clearance to return to the ballroom after a rib injury forced her to withdraw from last weekend’s live broadcast.
The show’s production team shared the update via Instagram, featuring a photograph of Goodrem back in the rehearsal studio with her professional partner, Kai Widdrington. The announcement noted that the singer will also be featured on the Wednesday evening edition of Training Room Diaries, where she will speak with Abi Clarke.
Goodrem’s return follows a brief hiatus during which she was granted an automatic bye to the next round of the competition. During her absence, she expressed her disappointment in a statement read by It Takes Two host Ellie Taylor on 12 October, noting, “I’m absolutely gutted that a rib injury means I will not be able to dance on Strictly this week.”
At the time of her injury, the BBC confirmed that medical professionals had advised the singer to prioritize rest. Goodrem had previously established herself as a frontrunner in the series, having secured the competition’s first score of nine during Week Three for her performance of a Salsa mash-up.
While Goodrem was sidelined, the remaining contestants participated in Icons Week. The leaderboard was topped by Love Island star Cach Mercer and actor Jaime Winstone, while Paralympic gold medallist Dame Sarah Storey was eliminated after a unanimous judges’ decision favored Bethany Antonia in the dance-off.
With 11 contestants remaining, the competition continues to narrow following the departures of Storey, Melanie Walters, and Chris Appleton. Viewers can watch the next installment of Strictly Come Dancing this Saturday at 6:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
