POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — A civil servant allegedly exploited remote work policies and submitted false sick leave to hold five separate government positions simultaneously, according to court proceedings.
Prosecutors revealed that Kashim Chowdhury, 55, was contracted to work a staggering 183 hours per week across five roles, exceeding the total number of hours in a seven-day week. The case, heard at Southwark Crown Court, involves allegations of fraudulent activity worth £250,000.
The defendant, from Whitechapel in east London, is accused of misrepresenting his employment status to secure multiple roles with different departments, including the Home Office, Defra, and the Department of Health and Social Care. He reportedly used remote work arrangements and sick notes to conceal his activities, according to legal filings.
