Chipotle Sued for Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Jalapeño Peppers

POLICY WIRE — City, Country — A woman has filed a lawsuit against Chipotle Mexican Grill, alleging that she developed sepsis after consuming a bowl containing jalapeño peppers contaminated with Salmonella. The lawsuit claims the peppers were sourced from Mexico.

Federal health officials have reported that over 300 people have been infected with Salmonella from jalapeño peppers imported from Mexico. The plaintiff, whose identity is currently undisclosed, asserts that the contamination led to severe health complications, including sepsis.

The lawsuit seeks damages for medical expenses, pain — and suffering, and other related costs. Chipotle hasn’t issued a public statement regarding the specific case but has previously stated that they take food safety very seriously and are cooperating with health authorities.
