Chicago Sky Bans Enes Kanter Freedom from Home Games, Citing Potential Threat

POLICY WIRE — Chicago, USA — The Chicago Sky have prohibited Enes Kanter Freedom from attending their home games following his ejection during Sunday’s match against the Indiana Fever.

Owner Michael Alter disclosed this decision during a rare press conference on Tuesday. He stated that Freedom is barred from entering Wintrust Arena for Sky games unless he can demonstrate to our satisfaction that he can adhere to our rules without posing a potential threat.

The 6-foot-10, 250-pound former NBA player was removed from the game after an altercation with Sky guard Natasha Cloud in the third quarter. Freedom was seated along the baseline wearing a shirt that read “WOMAN noun. adult human female.”

Cloud, after scoring a basket, performed a chest bump with teammate Aicha Coulibaly and then approached Freedom, yelling and pointing at him. Security and several Sky players intervened as Freedom stepped onto the court.

Alter accused Freedom of attempting to provoke a reaction and gain attention. Freedom, while being escorted off the court, urged the crowd to respond and later posted on social media about his ejection for supporting women.

Freedom and another former NBA player, Royce White, have declared for the WNBA draft, claiming they identify as women. However, a source informed the AP that they are ineligible due to the league’s current policies.

The WNBA has faced recent debates over the participation of transgender women. The league’s collective bargaining agreement restricts the WNBA to women but does not specify gender identity or sex assigned at birth.

Additionally, Alter addressed an incident where multiple sex toys were thrown onto the court during a recent game against Golden State. He stated that the individuals responsible have been identified and the team is working to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
