POLICY WIRE — London, UK — A recent investigation by consumer advocacy group Which? has revealed that the caffeine content in Costa’s cappuccino is significantly higher than that of Starbucks. According to the study, a single Costa cappuccino contains the equivalent of approximately four cans of Red Bull in terms of caffeine.
The findings indicate that Costa’s cappuccino has more than three times the caffeine content compared to a Starbucks cappuccino. The study did not provide specific milligram measurements but highlighted the stark difference in caffeine levels between the two popular coffee chains.
Which? conducted the analysis to provide consumers with clearer information about the caffeine content in their favorite coffee drinks. The organization emphasized the importance of being informed about the potential effects of high caffeine consumption.
“Consumers should be aware of the caffeine levels in their beverages to make informed choices,” stated a Which? spokesperson. “High caffeine intake can lead to adverse effects such as increased heart rate, anxiety, and sleep disturbances.”
The study has sparked discussions among coffee enthusiasts and health-conscious individuals about the need for greater transparency in caffeine content labeling. While both Costa and Starbucks provide nutritional information on their websites, the Which? report underscores the variability in caffeine levels across different coffee chains.
