POLICY WIRE — London, UK — Mayor Andy Burnham has publicly addressed a recent incident involving a hoax message exchange. The mayor communicated with an individual posing as Susie Wiles, the chief of staff to former US President Donald Trump.
“I am not embarrassed about the hoax message exchange,” Burnham stated during a press conference. “It was a mistake, but it has been handled appropriately.”
The incident came to light after internal communications were reviewed. Burnham’s office confirmed that the messages were part of a larger investigation into security protocols.
