British Survivor of 9/11 Recalls Trauma Through Nightmares 25 Years Later
British 9/11 survivor Janice Brooks recounts her escape from the south tower and recurring nightmares 25 years after the attacks.
POLICY WIRE — New York, United States — For 25 years, Janice Brooks has been haunted by a vivid nightmare that transports her to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. In the dream, she sees a man with curly black hair standing in a burning tower, poised to jump as flames approach.
Brooks was one of the few who survived the attack, escaping the 84th floor of the south tower while 61 colleagues perished. She had only been in New York for three weeks when the attacks occurred, having recently taken a job as an executive assistant at Euro Brokers in Two World Trade Center.

The day began with a routine morning, but everything changed when American Airlines Flight 11 struck the north tower. Brooks heard the explosion and initially thought it was construction noise. When the evacuation order came, she hesitated to call her London office before rushing to safety. The nightmare she now experiences is a haunting reminder of the tragedy that unfolded around her.
