Brad Paisley Delivers Emotional Solo Tribute to Dolly Parton Posthumously

POLICY WIRE — Bridgeport, Connecticut — Country music artist Brad Paisley paid a poignant tribute to his departed collaborator, Dolly Parton, by performing their 2005 duet ‘When I Get Where I’m Going’ solo at a recent concert.

Following Parton’s passing at the age of 80, Paisley emotionally sang the acoustic ballad at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater on August 27.

During the performance, Paisley became tearful and shared with the audience, ‘When I recorded that song and sent it to Dolly, I said, A couple of people in my life I’ve lost, and I did not know if this would relate to you. She immediately responded, “Yes, let me sing on that.” And she did,’ as per a Facebook video from the venue.

The song delves into themes of the afterlife and reuniting with loved ones in heaven. Paisley remarked that the song’s significance has transformed since Parton’s death, stating, ‘I never thought it would be about her, but it is. it is everything she believed, and we will always love you.’ A slideshow of images of the two singers accompanied by the words ‘We Love You Dolly’ was displayed on the screen behind him.

After Parton’s nephew Bryan Seaver announced her death, the country music community was flooded with tributes. Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood declared September 25 as ‘Dolly Day’ at their Nashville bar, Low Places Bar & Honky-Tonk, with proceeds benefiting Parton’s Imagination Library.

Miley Cyrus, Parton’s goddaughter, and her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, also shared their heartfelt memories of ‘Aunt Dolly.’ Parton was privately laid to rest on August 30, next to her husband of 60 years, Carl Dean, who passed away in March 2025.
