POLICY WIRE — Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona — Human remains discovered in the Grand Canyon this week have been confirmed as those of Timothy Allen Smith, the last missing individual following deadly flash floods in late August, according to his wife.
The discovery marks the third fatality from the catastrophic flooding that struck the Phantom Ranch area and damaged a critical water pipeline serving the South Rim. Smith, a 53-year-old pilot from Wyoming, was found Monday near Crystal Rapids on the Colorado River. His two companions, Brent Rosenkranz and John Giusti, were recovered earlier.
