POLICY WIRE — Sydney, Australia — The body of 18-year-old Lily Hooper was airlifted from a national park in the Southern Highlands following an eight-day search. Officials have issued an apology for initially misreporting that she was alive.
Hooper’s body was discovered in a remote area of the park, necessitating a helicopter evacuation. The search, involving multiple emergency services, concluded with the tragic confirmation of her death.
“We deeply regret the error in our earlier communication,” stated a park official. “Our thoughts are with Lily’s family during this difficult time.”
The incident has prompted a review of communication protocols within the park’s emergency response team to prevent future misreporting.
