Bernadette Greene-Placentia, who is running in the state’s 8th District, said she was attacked in Sun City, a Phoenix suburb, after fixing a campaign sign. She told police she was struck on the head and later found herself being sexually assaulted by a man, as reported by KPHO, a CBS affiliate.

A second man allegedly assaulted her while she fought back, and one of the attackers reportedly called her a derogatory term, according to the police report. Greene-Placentia first shared the incident with the Phoenix New Times, disclosing that she informed her husband and campaign team the following day before filing a report two weeks later. Her campaign emphasized her decision to speak out as a way to support other survivors.
