The sinister connection between the Israeli dictatorship and India’s extreme government has been further exposed by a new wave of false propaganda aimed at Pakistan. A wholly unfounded and invented allegation that Pakistan threatened Israel with nuclear weapons in the case of an attack on Iran is at the heart of this debate. Multiple credible sources have refuted the claim and Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denied it outright; it had its origins in a bogus social media account purportedly associated with India’s infamous spy organization RAW. It appears, however, that the goal of this disinformation effort is to demonise Pakistan, incite international sympathy for Israel, and deflect focus away from important geopolitical events, such as the diplomatic triumph of Pakistan’s army chief’s recent visit to the US.
“According to Israeli channels, Pakistan has informed the United States that if Iran is attacked with nuclear weapons, Pakistan will launch a nuclear response against Israel.” The bogus allegation was made by the deceptive social media handle @Iriran_official. This comment lacked proof to back it up, despite its fiery character. The tweet was swiftly accompanied by a clarification statement from social media site X, which asserted that “no credible or official sources have confirmed that Pakistan sent any such message to the United States.” In and of itself, this disclaimer was a strong objection to the misleading story and demonstrated how unfounded the assertion was.
Indian intelligence agency RAW has a well-documented history of conducting information warfare against Pakistan; sources inside the government have verified that the account is directly related to RAW. It seems like there are two goals here: first, to rally the world behind Israel in the face of rising Middle Eastern tensions, and second, to demonize Pakistan by making it seem like a careless nuclear power that is threatening other countries. Despite Pakistan’s track record of supporting regional peace and prudent nuclear activity, this is all a part of a larger psychological operation to portray Pakistan as a disruptive factor.
Another part of the made-up story was an attempt to misquote Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, who was said to have denied in Parliament that he had shared information with Iran about an impending strike. Also, this was obviously false. Records and transcripts of the National Assembly session held on June 14 show that Khawaja Asif did not make any such comments. The extreme measures that this propaganda apparatus is prepared to take are demonstrated by the intentional misrepresentation of a statement made by a top Pakistani official.
The fact that Russian news agency RT, which had first reported on the matter, eventually withdrew their interpretation and apologized lends credence to Pakistan’s stance. The fact that even foreign media outlets were briefly deceived by the falsehoods is demonstrated by RT’s retraction. Their quick rebuttal, however, did double duty: it bolstered Pakistan’s position while subtly acknowledging the existence of a systematic disinformation effort, which had even seasoned journalists caught unawares.
The strategic goals of those behind this false news go beyond mere political manoeuvring and digital noise. There has been a watershed moment in Pakistani foreign relations with the country’s chief of army staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, making a high-profile visit to the US. The highly-touted diplomatic visit is a representation of Pakistan’s increasing geopolitical importance and its will to maintain peace in the region. According to sources, the success of this visit has gravely unnerved Pakistan’s foes, particularly those who have a strong interest in isolating Pakistan. So, the nuclear threat myth is a useful smokescreen for Islamabad to divert attention away from the good news coming out of its foreign policy initiatives.
The Indian intelligence community has a history of working with other countries, such as Israel, to spread disinformation in an effort to tarnish Pakistan’s reputation. Past events have shown this to be possible. Pakistan was placed on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) gray list in prior years by RAW and Israeli lobbying groups. Pakistan was finally removed from the list as a result of its thorough reforms and open financial processes, which first worked but ultimately failed. Dissatisfied with their inability to maintain Pakistan’s diplomatic isolation, the same networks are now spreading false and sensationalized tales in an effort to sow discord and damage Pakistan’s reputation abroad.
It seems like the present effort is also trying to drive a wedge between Pakistan and the rest of the Middle East. Pakistan has maintained constant diplomatic and moral support for Iran across several international platforms because of Iran’s status as a neighbor and key actor in the region. Propagandists seek to sow fear and distrust among Western allies and Gulf states by insinuating that Pakistan is prepared to deploy nuclear weapons on behalf of Iran. In spite of this, Pakistan’s stance has not changed: the country wants regional tranquility, mutual respect, and peaceful cohabitation rather than hostility or military adventurism.
The fact that Pakistan’s Foreign Office and high-ranking officials rejected this falsehood so quickly and firmly shows that Pakistan is taking its diplomacy seriously. Pakistan must take the initiative to disprove such unfounded accusations in this day and age when false information travels at a greater rate than truth. The fact that international news outlets are starting to catch on to these mistakes and fix them is another evidence that Pakistan is getting its due recognition on the international stage.
The latest fabrication about Pakistan’s purported nuclear threat to Israel is just another effort by hostile parties to undermine Pakistan’s improving diplomatic position. The truth of Pakistan’s responsible and principled worldwide conduct cannot be altered by desperate efforts to spread false information through bogus accounts and misinformation operations. Pakistan will not waver from its dedication to truth, stability, and constructive engagement, even while its foes persist in using deceitful tactics. This propaganda plot’s debunking highlights the need for media literacy, local knowledge, and the perils of allowing false news to influence world events.
