POLICY WIRE — Berlin, Germany — A man suspected of fatally shooting six child welfare workers at a shelter for mothers in Stade, northern Germany, died by suicide in his jail cell on Tuesday, officials confirmed.

The suspect, partially identified in German media as 45-year-old Fatih Khan G., was discovered by jail staff in his single cell early Tuesday morning, according to a statement from the Lower Saxony state justice ministry.

“There are currently no indications of third-party involvement in the suspect’s death,” the ministry stated.

Fatih Khan G. was suspected of carrying out the deadly attack on October 18 at the welfare facility. The incident left six employees dead — and several others injured.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Authorities haven’t disclosed further details about the suspect’s background or possible connections to the victims.
