Malaysia Government Refrains from Meddling in Corporate Management: Minister
Malaysia's transport minister clarifies government's non-interference in corporate management following the appointment of former DP World chief to lead MMC Port Holdings.
POLICY WIRE — Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — Malaysia’s government has no authority to interfere in the management of companies, only regulating shareholding structures, the nation’s transport minister announced on Friday. This statement follows the appointment of Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, former chief of Dubai-based logistics giant DP World, as the new leader of Malaysia’s largest port operator, MMC Port Holdings.
Sultan Ahmed resigned from his position at DP World in February amid scrutiny over his alleged ties to Jeffrey Epstein. He has now assumed the role at MMC Port Holdings.
“We regulate only in terms of shareholding structures and don’t interfere in the management of companies,” the transport minister stated.
