POLICY WIRE — Milan, Italy — Inter Milan has issued a pointed message to FC Barcelona regarding their reported interest in star defender Alessandro Bastoni, emphasizing direct communication over media speculation.
The highly-rated Italian center-back is understood to be the primary target for the Catalan club as they aim to bolster their defensive line this summer. Reports indicate that the 26-year-old has already given his consent for a potential transfer to Barcelona.
Furthermore, it is believed that Bastoni recently declined an approach from Liverpool FC, signifying his strong preference for a move to the Spanish giants. Confidential discussions between Barcelona representatives and Bastoni’s entourage are reportedly underway, with an estimated transfer fee around €55 million, potentially including a young player in the deal.
Inter’s Official Stance on Bastoni
Despite the advanced personal negotiations, direct talks between the two prominent European clubs have yet to commence, with intermediaries seemingly handling initial discussions. Addressing the escalating rumors at the recent Inside the Sport 2026 event, Inter Sporting Director Piero Ausilio publicly clarified the Italian club’s position.
“Bastoni is under contract with Inter, and there are no indications suggesting his departure. We are delighted with his performance and anticipate his continued valuable contributions. Should any club express interest, they should contact us directly; our contact details are readily available,” Ausilio stated, as reported by Diario AS. “We have not yet considered strategic adjustments in the transfer market; discussions about the future will be postponed until a more stable period. Currently, our focus remains on achieving immediate objectives.”

Potential Player-Plus-Cash Deals
Recent reports suggest that Inter might consider a player-plus-cash agreement for Bastoni. Barcelona’s promising young right-back, Hector Fort, has been identified as a player of interest for the Italian club and could potentially be part of an offer. Another prospect, Roony Bardghji, has also been mentioned as a possible component in such a transfer.
However, the successful execution of such an exchange would hinge on the willingness of the players involved to accept the terms of any proposed deal. Inter’s readiness to engage in a part-exchange negotiation will ultimately depend on their assessment of the long-term potential and value that an incoming player could bring to their squad.
