Kashmir Day 2026: A Call for Justice, Freedom, and Global Solidarity

Kashmir Day is an occasion that, every year, reminds us of the resilience of the Kashmiri people, who have never given up their struggle for justice and self-determination. Today, in 2026, Pakistan once again reaffirms its unwavering support for the people of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. Since the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A on August 5, 2019, Kashmiris have faced severe repression. This unlawful act stripped them of their constitutional rights and subjected them to widespread human rights abuses.

Since 2019, over 1,050 Kashmiris have been killed by the Indian forces including the army, Rashtriya Rifles, and paramilitary forces. These victims are 22 women and 45 children. Of these 287 or more were in custody or in provoked confrontations. Other prominent leaders of Hurriyat like Syed Ali Gilani, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Altaf Ahmed Shah and Ghulam Muhammad were also killed during detention. Their assassination highlights the methodical suppression of political opinions in the area.

These figures are just the tip of the iceberg. Protests are usually meted out with forceful violence. There have been over 2,660 protest injuries and over 33,000 arbitrary arrests of students, journalists, human rights activists, and religious scholars under oppressive laws like the Public Safety Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Houses and residential buildings have been burnt and thousands of people are displaced. More than 1,100 buildings have been destroyed and at least 139 women have been harassed. The everyday life of the average Kashmirians is the fear, uncertainty, and the intimidation.

The way Pakistan has been promoting the Kashmiri cause is not simply a political agenda but rather a moral imperative. The world should collectively protect human dignity and access to justice as well as defending the rights of all citizens. The international community can contribute to the process of transforming the region into being more stable and just as it recognizes the situation of Kashmiris and attempts to resolve the issue.

The Kashmiri people have also been found to be incredibly strong in spite of war and suffering that have taken their toll over decades. These are described as daring in tough times, strong amidst oppression and hopeful amidst poverty. Their spirit of indomination is boosted with each demonstration, each peaceful resistance, and each call of justice.

Political activists are under certain pressure. Shoukat Bakshi, a friend of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik is still a target of a decades old case. In the meantime, young detainees such as Jan Mohammad Telli are still deprived of the basic right to the law. These measures indicate a pattern of oppression against dissent and drowning out people who are demanding Kashmiri freedom. However, Kashmiris demonstrate great bravery even in the situation when such extreme conditions are observed. Their unwavering determination to do justice still motivates the diplomatic and moral support of Pakistan.

The world community must play an important role. This is a Kashmir Day that Pakistan is calling upon the world to acknowledge the suffering that is happening, observe the resolutions of the United Nations and the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people. The freedom, self-determination and dignity are rights that cannot be overlooked. The struggle of Kashmir cannot be separated with the devotion of Pakistan to the justice and human rights. The martyrdom of Kashmiri brothers and sisters should not be ignored and their case needs continuous attention of the whole world.

The repression that is still going on in the Indian-controlled Kashmir has repercussions much further afield. Regional stability and peace are threatened by random arrests and harassment as well as violence on civilians. The silencing of political voices compromises the ideals of democracy and contravenes the international law. The people of Kashmir are not giving up despite these problems. They still insist on their rights by peaceful demonstrations, appeals to the masses and demands accountability. They are courageous and this encourages Pakistan and other people who believe in human rights globally.

The significance of international solidarity is also a chance to be pointed out during Kashmir Day. The world can have a significant role to play in the quest of justice to Kashmiris by recognizing the sacrifices made by the victims, by insisting on actions to be taken to stop the abuse and by lending support to the call of self-determination.

Kashmir Day 2026 is an appeal and a wake-up call. It reminds the world of the tyranny on the people of the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. It urges the international community to support justice, human rights, and dignity of the people who still suffer. The Kashmiri struggle is a fight of justice, freedom and a fight of belonging in the world. Pakistan is a nation that is determined to take this cause. Their struggle and sacrifices to have a just and lasting solution will not be forgotten and they should go on until they achieve it.

Kashmir Day is not just another calendar date. It is a representation of power, bravery and optimism. It is an alert that one should never assume that justice is something that should be assumed. The world cannot afford to disregard it. The struggle continues with the people of Kashmir and their voices need to be heard. The global community can not afford to be silent. Pakistan has been helping Kashmiris, which is an extension of its approach to human rights and international justice. The fight against oppression and autonomy in Kashmir will not end until it is achieved.
