POLICY WIRE — Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — Saudi defense systems neutralized two ballistic missiles launched toward the capital, yet shrapnel from the interception damaged an administrative building belonging to state‑owned oil giant Saudi Aramco.
The missiles, identified by officials as originating from Yemen’s Iran‑backed Houthi movement, were tracked and shot down by the Saudi‑led coalition early Sunday morning, prompting loud explosions across the city.
Falling debris from the intercepted projectiles struck the Aramco office complex in Riyadh’s financial district, causing visible damage to the structure but no immediate reports of casualties.
The incident underscores the heightened threat environment in the region as Houthi forces continue to target Saudi territory with long‑range weaponry.
