POLICY WIRE — Paris, France — Two months after high‑school students abandoned crumbling classrooms, France’s protest movement shows no sign of waning, with roughly 146,000 people gathering in streets across the nation on Saturday.
The unrest has radiated beyond France, touching at least ten European countries and mobilising hundreds of thousands of citizens in parallel demonstrations.
Since mid‑September, more than 1,700 cost‑of‑living rallies have erupted in 31 nations, a wave largely fueled by sharply rising living expenses.
This week, protests have flared throughout Southern and Western Europe, including France, Albania, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Belgium and Greece, echoing the original French grievances.
France remains the catalyst of the continent‑wide surge, and the evolving map tracks intensity and drivers of each country’s unrest as events unfold.
