Federal Judge Compels Mamdani Administration to Comply with ICE Data Subpoena
Judge Lewis Kaplan orders NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani to provide homeless shelter records to ICE despite legal disputes over city property use.
POLICY WIRE — New York City, USA — A federal judge has ruled that the administration of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani must obey a subpoena issued by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
In a comprehensive 12-page judicial order, District Judge Lewis Kaplan mandated that the city release specific documentation requested by the federal immigration agency.
The subpoena specifically targets personal information, including the names and dates of birth of homeless individuals currently residing in a city shelter.
The ruling comes amidst a period of heightened tension between the city and federal authorities. Mayor Mamdani has threatened to initiate litigation against ICE over claims regarding agency conduct.
The mayor alleges that federal officers have been utilizing parking lots owned by New York City for their own enforcement purposes.
To prevent further unauthorized use of municipal assets, the Mamdani administration has introduced Executive Order 13. This directive involves coordinating with various city agencies to overhaul protocols and policies designed to restrict how non-local law enforcement entities attempt to gain access to city-owned lots and property.
Mamdani remains firm that ICE immediately cease using city land for immigration-related operations, signaling that legal recourse will follow if the practice continues.
