POLICY WIRE — San Francisco, USA — State Senator Scott Wiener has emerged victorious in the competitive race for California’s 11th Congressional District, securing the seat previously held by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Wiener earned the victory over Connie Chan following Pelosi’s announcement in November 2025 that she would not pursue another term representing the San Francisco area.
The contest was characterized as a costly and intense battle that highlighted deep ideological divisions between various factions of the city’s local Democratic party.
San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan officially conceded the race on November 4 at 7:57 p.m. after Wiener maintained a commanding lead with more than half of the votes processed.
In her concession, Chan noted that after evaluating the current results and the remaining ballots, she expected the final outcome to remain unchanged.
The succession race created significant internal friction within the delegation, particularly as Pelosi directed substantial resources to support Chan as her preferred successor.
In another notable local election development, Democrat Aisha Wahab successfully secured a re-election to fill the congressional seat vacated by Eric Swalwell, serving a full two-year term.
