Activists Breach Microsoft Data Center Site in Amsterdam as Pope Leo Statue Arrives
Protesters storm a Microsoft data center site in Amsterdam over AI concerns while a massive Pope Leo XIV statue is transported to Latin America.
POLICY WIRE — Amsterdam, Netherlands — A wave of activism reached the Netherlands on Friday as more than 100 protesters converged on the construction site of a new Microsoft AI data center.
The group began their demonstration by marching arm in arm before successfully breaching the security perimeter to gain access to the facility.
Once inside, activists were seen climbing industrial cranes and hanging various banners to voice their opposition to the project.
The protest, which took place on November 6, 2026, was driven by local resistance and growing concerns regarding the environmental impact of large-scale AI infrastructure.
In a separate development event, a massive religious monument was documented being moved to the port city of Callao.
The 14-meter-tall statue of Pope Leo XIV was the work of Peruvian artist Rafael Gutierrez and is arriving ahead of the pope’s pastoral tour of Latin America.
