Amateur cricketer ‘Clicky Ponting’ banned for two years over viral cheating
Banned for two years over viral cheating scandal, amateur cricketer 'Clicky Ponting' faces severe career impact after finger-clicking deception.
POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — An amateur cricketer known for his nickname, ‘Clicky Ponting,’ has been sanctioned with a two-year ban from the sport. The punitive measure stems directly from a controversial cheating incident that captivated audiences across the globe.
The governing body, North Yorkshire & South Durham Cricket League (NYSDCL), confirmed that the player’s involvement in the deception resulted in a heavy penalty. Associated team members have also faced substantial disciplinary action.
Video footage of Bromford’s second team member, Brian Devine, was widely shared across online platforms in July. The clip showed Devine deceiving fielding officials by tapping his fingers as the ball came past the bat, mimicking a bat touch, in order to claim outs.
The video gained an international following and became a trending topic, prompting a formal review.
Following an extensive probe by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the authority determined that the actions constituted an illegitimate attempt to gain an advantage, thereby finalizing the two-year suspension protocol.
