POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — The government will require every employer to include salary information in job advertisements, Prime Minister Andy Burnham said on Thursday as part of a drive to widen youth access to work and close pay gaps.
The new “say what you pay” legislation targets all sectors and is intended to give job seekers clearer expectations while encouraging fairer wages for women and younger workers.
Current data show just over two in five firms always publish salary ranges, and fewer than one in five consistently reveal exact figures, underscoring the need for mandatory disclosure.
Officials say the rule will strengthen pay transparency across the labour market and help reduce disparities that have persisted despite existing voluntary practices.
