UK Broadcaster Sky Targeted by Security Threat Following RTE Evacuation and European Flight Scares
Sky reports a security threat after Irish broadcaster RTE evacuated its headquarters and multiple bomb threats disrupted flights across Europe.
POLICY WIRE — London, UK — The British media giant Sky announced Friday that it has been targeted by a security threat. This development comes shortly after the Irish national broadcaster RTE was forced to clear its offices due to a bomb scare, coinciding with a series of similar threats that disrupted aviation travel across Europe this week.
Comcast-owned Sky confirmed it was among several media outlets to receive a security warning. The information was shared via a presenter appearing on Sky News.
The organization stated that it has completed a formal security assessment and notified the appropriate authorities regarding the incident. Sky emphasized that the protection of its staff remains their top priority and that they are collaborating closely with law enforcement to maintain secure operations and personnel safety.
The broadcaster noted that it cannot provide further details on the matter at this stage.
Earlier in the day, RTE detailed its evacuation after receiving a threat. The message reportedly claimed to originate from the same group responsible for the recent wave of bomb threats targeting passenger flights throughout Europe over the past few days. While an RTE reporter shared portions of the threatening email on-air, the specific identity of the group involved was not disclosed.
