Serbia Certifies Landslide Victory for Student List, Ended Vučić Era
Serbian election officials certified Oct. 25 results, granting the Student List 140 seats and clearing the path to form a new government.
POLICY WIRE — Belgrade, Serbia — The era of strongman rule in Serbia is officially concluding as election authorities certified the final outcomes of last month’s national vote.
On Thursday, the electoral commission formally announced that the opposition Student List has secured an absolute majority in the upcoming legislature.
This landmark shift confirms that the student-led movement, which rose to prominence after the 2024 Novi Sad railway disaster, has decisively defeated the coalition of former president Aleksandar Vučić.
With the certification complete, the Student List group is projected to command 140 out of the 250 seats in the National Assembly.
This overwhelming victory dismantles the 14-year grip held by Vučić’s Serbian Progressive Party and paves the way for the immediate formation of a new parliament and cabinet.
As the new government prepares to take office, attention turns to how the young leaders will navigate the complex challenges left behind by the previous administration.
