POLICY WIRE — Bella Coola, Canada — Canadian authorities have indicated that a pack of grizzly bears, rather than a single animal, may be responsible for the fatal attack that killed a mother and daughter in the remote community of Bella Coola.
Jeff Tyre, an inspector with the British Columbia Conservation Officer Service, detailed the investigation in a video statement released to the public.
He noted that the service believes more than one bear participated in the incident, which occurred along the province’s central coast.
Search operations involving Royal Canadian Mounted Police and conservation officers successfully recovered the second body involved in the tragedy.
The findings were shared as officials continue to monitor the area for potential wildlife threats.
