Three-Quarters of Britons Now View US as Major Global Peace Threat, Survey Finds
A new report reveals 74% of Britons see the US as a serious threat to global peace, doubling concerns since just two years ago.
POLICY WIRE — London, UK — A dramatic shift in British public perception has emerged, with the vast majority of citizens now identifying the United States as a significant danger to international stability.
According to the latest British Social Attitudes survey (BSA) released by the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen), 74% of the British public believes the US poses a serious threat to global peace.
This figure represents a massive increase in concern; in 2024, only 36% of respondents held the same view of the American nation.
The sharp decline follows the inauguration of Donald Trump for his second term as president, leading to more than double the alarm level in just two years.
The data also highlights broader geopolitical anxieties among the British. 78% of respondents view Israel as a threat to the world’s stability.
Additionally, 75% of those surveyed identified Iran as a risk to global peace, while Russia and China also appear as concerns to the public.
The research was commissioned and developed by the Institute for Global Affairs at Eurasia Group under its Independent America program.
That program aims to examine how American foreign policy might be adjusted to meet current global realities and the desires of US voters themselves.
