POLICY WIRE — Kyiv, Ukraine — Russia unleashed a sweeping, multi-wave bombardment of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on Tuesday, disabling power across vast regions of the country.
The offensive involved dozens of missiles and drones targeting key facilities in Kyiv and other major cities, marking one of the largest energy assaults in months.
As a result, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians are facing widespread outages, enduring cold temperatures and darkness in their homes.
In response, Kyiv conducted drone strikes on Russia, causing major damage to an industrial site in Nizhny Novgorod.
Ukraine’s Energy Ministry confirmed that overnight strikes cut electricity supplies in several areas, including the central Dnipropetrovsk region.
This aggressive escalation occurred as international attention focuses on diplomatic efforts, with calls for Moscow to engage in peace talks amid the ongoing crisis.
