The 28-year-old inmate was previously serving a life sentence at the Northwest Correctional Complex, located in a secluded area of Tiptonville, approximately 90 miles from Memphis. According to the Tennessee Department of Correction, Morley was sentenced four years ago for the killing of a colleague.

Prison staff first realized Morley had fled the facility at roughly 11:30 p.m. local time on October 25. A subsequent review of security surveillance footage revealed the inmate exiting the complex by climbing through an on-site fence while still wearing his prison attire.

Two days after the initial break, authorities released footage showing Morley commandeering a white 2008 Ford F-350 in the early morning of October 27. The vehicle, which featured Tennessee license plates and a Lindamood Planting Company logo, had been stolen from Lake County.

The stolen truck was recovered later that day in Marion, Illinois, situated roughly 150 miles north of the prison facility.
