Two Years After Murder, Rabbi Zvi Kogan’s Legacy Sustained By 40,000 Mitzvos
Hundreds gathered in Jerusalem to mark the yartzeit of Rabbi Zvi Kogan, whose dedication to Jewish life in the UAE lives on through 40,000 pledged mitzvos.
POLICY WIRE — Jerusalem, Israel — Hundreds of family members, friends, and fellow Shluchim converged on Jerusalem on Monday night to honor the anniversary of Rabbi Zvi Kogan HY”D. The gathering marked the yartzeit of the Chabad emissary, whose life was tragically cut short by murder in the United Arab Emirates.
Kogan, who was stabbed in a brutal assault, was initially a resident of the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood in Jerusalem. Born on August 11, 1996, he traced his lineage to both Rabbi Yisrael Baal Shem Tov, the founder of the Chassidic movement, and Rabbi Shabtai Cohen, a renowned 17th-century legal authority known as the Shach.
Two years have passed since the Israel-Moldovan rabbi was abducted and killed on November 21, 2024. His body was confirmed to be his through discovery on November 24, 2024, ending the uncertainty surrounding his disappearance from the Gulf region.
Despite the violence, the community recalls his profound warmth and unwavering commitment to fostering Jewish life in the UAE. The immediate impact of his death has been transformed into a lasting communal effort.
In tribute to his memory, more than 40,000 mitzvos have been pledged by supporters around the world. These collective acts serve to perpetuate the specific mission to which Kogan devoted his final years of service.
