LA28 Unveils ‘Stars Align’ Slogan and Taps Kathleen Kennedy for Ceremonies
LA28 organizers reveal 'Stars Align' as the official 2028 Olympic slogan and appoint legendary producer Kathleen Kennedy to lead opening and closing events.
POLICY WIRE — Los Angeles, USA — The LA28 Organizing Committee has officially introduced Stars Align as the designated slogan for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The announcement was accompanied by a 60-second promotional film featuring music from the Los Angeles-based rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers.
In conjunction with the branding reveal, organizers announced that Oscar-nominated producer Kathleen Kennedy has been appointed to oversee the content and ceremonies for the upcoming Games. Kennedy, 73, recently concluded her tenure as president of Lucasfilm, a role she held since 2012, and brings an extensive resume that includes work on iconic films such as E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, and the modern Star Wars franchise.
Casey Wasserman, the chairperson and president of LA28, praised the appointment, describing Kennedy as a legend and one of Hollywood’s greatest storytellers. He noted that as the world turns its attention to Los Angeles, he could think of no one better suited to capture the magic of the city.
Kennedy, who has been a regular attendee of the Olympics since the 1984 Summer Games in Los Angeles, expressed her enthusiasm for the project. She stated that she is thrilled to help bring the bold vision of the Games to life after being invited to join the team by Wasserman.
The new head of ceremonies will work alongside a creative team that includes executive producer and creative director Ben Winston, as well as executive producer of production Scott Givens. Peter Rice will continue his involvement with the project as an executive producer.
The official schedule for the 2028 Games is set to begin with the Olympic opening ceremony on July 14 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, followed by the closing ceremony on July 30 at the Coliseum. The Paralympic Games are slated to open on August 15 at SoFi Stadium, with the closing ceremony scheduled for August 27 at the Coliseum.
