Yemen’s Houthi Militia Demands Immediate Evacuation of Aden International Airport
Yemen's Houthi movement has issued an urgent evacuation order for Aden International Airport, citing the alleged presence of Saudi military cargo.
POLICY WIRE — Dubai/Aden — The Iran-aligned Houthi militia issued a formal demand on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, calling for the immediate evacuation of the international airport in Aden. The facility serves as the primary base for Yemen’s internationally recognized, Saudi-backed government.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced the directive via a post on the social media platform X. Saree claimed the evacuation order was prompted by the alleged presence of a Saudi military cargo aircraft at the airport, which he asserted was transporting weapons.
The warning follows reports from local residents who described hearing multiple explosions in the vicinity of the airport shortly before the announcement was made. The facility has been a frequent target of the Iran-backed group, experiencing several strikes over the past few weeks.
As a critical humanitarian lifeline and gateway to southern Yemen, the airport remains a focal point of the ongoing conflict. There has been no immediate comment regarding the Houthi claims or the status of the facility following the warning.
