International Delegations Converge on Tehran Amid Rising Mideast War Fears
Diplomats from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan meet in Tehran to prevent regional escalation as tensions between Iran, Israel, and the U.S. intensify.
POLICY WIRE — Tehran, Iran — High-level diplomatic delegations from Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia arrived in Tehran on Monday to engage in urgent talks with Iranian officials. The meetings aim to prevent a resurgence of hostilities between Iran, Israel, and the United States.
The diplomatic push occurs as anxiety grows within Iran regarding the potential for full-scale war. Both Israeli and American leadership have intensified their rhetoric ahead of upcoming elections in their respective nations, while Iranian officials maintain a defiant stance.
Key participants include Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman, Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin, and Pakistani army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir. These officials are meeting with Iranian security leaders to discuss regional stability and the ongoing conflict in Yemen, where Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have recently targeted Saudi interests.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei confirmed that while the agenda remains flexible, the discussions are focused on addressing critical threats to regional security. Meanwhile, Qatari mediators are also working in coordination with the U.S. to facilitate de-escalation efforts.
Tensions remain high as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Iran or its proxies might attempt to disrupt the upcoming Israeli election on Tuesday. Despite reports of internal friction regarding potential military actions, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated there is no intent to initiate an attack on Iran unless provoked.
