Alaska Senate Candidate Mary Peltola Reschedules Campaign After Car Accident
Alaska Senate candidate Mary Peltola is recovering from minor injuries following a car accident, forcing a temporary pause in her campaign schedule.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, USA — Alaska Democratic Senate hopeful Mary Peltola is recovering after being involved in a vehicle collision that resulted in minor injuries for her and her family.
The incident occurred while the candidate was traveling to attend the Alaska Federation of Natives Annual Banquet. According to campaign manager Cheryl Bruce, the vehicle carrying the family was hit by another driver, necessitating medical care for those involved.
Following the advice of medical professionals, Peltola has decided to postpone her upcoming campaign appearances to focus on her recovery. Bruce noted that the candidate is in good spirits despite the setback.
Peltola expressed frustration regarding the delay of her Alaska Always Tour, emphasizing her desire to return to the trail to discuss her platform on lowering costs and addressing systemic issues for working families. Events originally slated for Sunday and Monday are currently being moved to new dates.
The 53-year-old candidate is currently challenging Republican Senator Dan Sullivan. Peltola, who previously made history as the first Democrat to represent Alaska in the House in five decades, secured the most votes in the August top-four primary under the state’s ranked-choice voting system.
