Mumbai Indians Appoint Kieron Pollard as Head Coach for 2027 IPL Season
The Mumbai Indians have named Kieron Pollard as their new head coach for the 2027 IPL season, succeeding Mahela Jayawardene in a major leadership shift.
POLICY WIRE — New Delhi, India — The Mumbai Indians have officially named former all-rounder Kieron Pollard as their new head coach for the upcoming 2027 Indian Premier League season.
Pollard steps into the leadership role following the departure of Sri Lankan cricket legend Mahela Jayawardene, who recently concluded his tenure with the five-time championship franchise.
The appointment marks a significant continuation of Pollard’s 16-year history with the team. During his distinguished playing career with the franchise from 2009 to 2022, he appeared in 189 matches, accumulating 3,412 runs and securing 69 wickets.
Pollard was a key contributor to the team’s success during their five title-winning campaigns in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. Regarding his new appointment, Pollard stated, “It is a honour to take on the role of head coach of Mumbai Indians.”
The coaching transition arrives as the franchise prepares for the upcoming mini-auction. The team confirmed the change on Saturday, signaling a new chapter for the organization as they aim for a title comeback.
