Bolt and Stellantis Set 2028 Launch for Greater Paris Autonomous Driving Trial
Bolt, Stellantis and Greater Paris plan a 2028 autonomous driving pilot using L4-Ready vehicles, aiming for a 2030 commercial rollout across 30 towns.
POLICY WIRE — Paris, France — Estonian ride-hailing enterprise Bolt and the Greater Paris region revealed plans on Friday to roll out an autonomous driving initiative in the French capital by 2028, utilizing vehicles manufactured by Franco-Italian automotive group Stellantis.
The joint announcement outlines an initial experimental pilot phase slated for 2028, which could pave the way for full commercial operations by the year 2030. The collaborative venture is positioning itself as a candidate for the ADACities program.
During the initial launch, the partners intend to introduce autonomous mobility services across as many as five municipalities situated in north-western Greater Paris. Ambitions remain high to scale this footprint to more than 30 municipalities by 2030.
The strategic partnership, officially designated as the Greater Paris Autonomous Driving Living Lab, unites the Metropolis of Greater Paris alongside Bolt and Stellantis. The regional authority represents Paris and 129 surrounding communes, while Stellantis contributes its L4-Ready platform engineering and Bolt provides its European-scale mobility network.
Additionally, Chinese self-driving technology enterprise Pony.ai has been identified as a prospective technology supplier for the initiative. The coalition follows recent disclosures regarding technological infrastructure, including Bolt’s selection of the NVIDIA Alpamayo Stack to power its autonomous fleets across Europe.
