POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — A memorial service was held to celebrate the life and distinguished career of veteran broadcaster Dermot Murnaghan, who passed away in July.
The service took place at St Bride’s Church, known as the Journalists’ Church, on Thursday, October 22nd, at 11:30 a.m. The event followed a private family funeral, offering friends and professional colleagues an opportunity to pay their respects to the former Sky News and BBC presenter.
Murnaghan, who was 68, died peacefully at his North London home surrounded by his family. He had been battling stage four prostate cancer for some time.
Born in Devon and raised in York and Ulster, Murnaghan was widely respected for his ability to present balanced reporting. Beyond his news career, he was a familiar face to many as the host of the popular quiz show Eggheads.
Following his diagnosis, Murnaghan became a vocal advocate for prostate cancer awareness and screening programs. His family has requested that those wishing to honor his memory consider donating to Prostate Cancer UK, Prostate Cancer Research, or the North London Hospice.
