Macron Slams Trump Over ‘Stupid’ Claims Blaming Muslim Migrants for French Riots
French President Emmanuel Macron blasts foreign leaders, including Donald Trump, for spreading false claims and AI images linking French riots to migrants.
POLICY WIRE — Paris, France — French President Emmanuel Macron asserted on Wednesday that foreign officials, including figures located on the opposite side of the Atlantic, are actively attempting to exploit France’s delicate social situation to advance their own domestic political objectives.
The remarks follow intense protests and subsequent rioting and looting triggered by soaring living costs across various French urban centers. U.S. President Donald Trump capitalized on the social unrest to bolster his own political standing, putting forward unsubstantiated claims that Muslim migrants bear responsibility for the violence while publicly demanding that Macron secure the borders immediately.
Macron characterized the aftermath of the weekend looting as a target of foreign information manipulation, noting that the interference produced commentary from numerous individuals, foreign leaders included, that proved both unacceptable and absurd. When a journalist directly asked if his comments pointed toward Trump, Macron confirmed it was among others.
The French leader further pointed to the circulation of artificial intelligence-generated images designed to depict fictitious conflict scenes across France, alongside false narratives alleging an invasion of migrant hordes and Islamists. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot stated that government offices stand ready to issue official clarifications to targeted countries in an effort to curb the amplification of false online information.
Addressing the underlying motivations, Macron expressed frustration with critics who display hostility toward the nation, specifically calling out politicians caught up in electoral cycles who naively echo fabricated media content. Meanwhile, Macron concluded a diplomatic tour in Qatar aimed at resolving domestic energy pressures, successfully securing an additional 100,000 metric tons of diesel monthly from the United Arab Emirates alongside another 100,000 tons pending confirmation from Bahrain.
