Russian Strikes Claim Lives of Elderly Ukrainians Following Trump Peace Push
Russian drone and missile strikes kill four, including two elderly citizens, as President Trump demands a peace deal within 12 days or face new tariffs.
POLICY WIRE — Kyiv, Ukraine — A wave of overnight Russian drone and missile strikes across four Ukrainian regions has resulted in four deaths, including two individuals over the age of 80. The attacks, which also targeted critical energy infrastructure, left at least 15 people wounded and caused widespread power outages for hundreds of thousands of households.
The violence follows a weekend of intense bombardment that claimed the lives of at least 11 people. These strikes occurred shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump publicly urged Kyiv to negotiate peace terms with Moscow.
President Trump has issued an ultimatum, stating that Russia now has a window of 10 to 12 days to secure a peace agreement. Failure to reach a deal within this timeframe will result in the imposition of secondary tariffs by the United States.
The recent escalation comes just over three weeks after the Trump administration implemented broad sanctions against the Russian oil sector. President Zelenskyy, who met with Trump on Tuesday to discuss a potential bilateral ceasefire regarding energy targets, noted that the ongoing bloodshed demonstrates that Russia is not feeling sufficient pressure to end the conflict.
